Projects Funded
Through generous contributions from friends of RMMS, the Foundation has supported approximately ten projects annually. Since 1998 these grants have totaled $160,500.
Included among projects funded from 1998-2004 were . . .

  • Visiting artists and authors
  • Sponsorship for field trips
  • Publication of Inkspillers, the school's literary magazine
  • Publication of the yearbook
  • Multicultural assemblies
  • Faculty sponsorship at national conferences
  • Acquisition of Junior Great Books
  • Professional storytelling
  • Mystic Aquarium hands-on workshops
  • Publication of a bilingual songbook
  • Nature's Classroom scholarships

For the 2006-2007 school year, the RMMS Foundation awarded $17,378 to support educational programs at the Regional Multicultural Magnet School. Below are a few samples of projects that were supported by the RMMS Foundation:

Nature's Classroom, $4,000. This grant provided scholarships to 4th and 5th grade students to attend this hands-on, science-based program that helps students realize the importance and fragility of the environment around them and the impact they can have.

Poetry in Motion, $500. This was a school-wide literacy event focusing on celebrating poetry. In addition to fostering academic growth, the event supports RMMS' multicultural mission and social goals.

For the 2005-06 school year, the following projects were supported by the foundation in the amount of $16,220.

  • $100 in field trip money for each class
  • State-of-the-art digital camera
  • Leveled reading materials for classroom collections
  • On-line subscription for K/1 reading materials
  • Multicultural traveling photo exhibit
  • Literature to enrich the math curriculum
  • Software for photo editing, music composition and geometry
  • "Poetry in Motion", a K-5 poetry project
  • An author visit by David Schwartz
  • Subscription to a Spanish language children's magazine
